Titled Items Information
Titles and paperwork can be overwhelming and confusing. Repocast.com is here to make sure the process is smooth & simple for buyers. Just let us know how we can help with your vehicle title transfer.
Miedema Companies are required by the State of Michigan to broker the title transfers of all vehicles, trailers or titled items sold through our auctions.
This process varies depending on where you live, what you bought and where it is going.
Here are details on how the most common of these transactions are handled.
MI Resident, Titling in MI:
If titling personally, we would need the ID(s) of who the titled unit would be titled too.
If titling to a company, we would need the full name, address & Federal ID.
REQUIRED – Any units driven off Repocast Locations will REQUIRE a plate and current proof of insurance. If not, you must be prepared to tow or trailer your titled item. Options are: New Plate, Plate Transfer or 30 Day Temporary plate.
If you would like to purchase a plate, that fee is calculated on the MI Secretary of State Plate Fee Calculator & based on the vehicle Fee Category & your birthday. That fee would be added to your invoice, along with a $1 temporary plate fee & you would be issued a 30 day temporary plate. We would need proof of insurance for the unit also.
**Please Note: if the consignor (seller) listed as seller on the title is a licensed car dealer in the State of Michigan, the temporary tag will be issued by that dealer upon our request from the buyer. Our company will email you the temporary tag when received from the issuing dealer. Please expect there may be a delay in receiving temporary tag only if the consignor (seller) is a licensed dealer in State of Michigan. If the consignor (seller) is not a licensed dealer, our company will issue the temporary tag at the time it is requested.
If you would like to transfer a valid plate, we would need the current registration for the unit the plate is coming off of, as well as proof of insurance. A $15 plate transfer fee will be added to your invoice.
We complete all paperwork with you at pickup or online through your account under Title Transfers.
We prefer if you begin the process online, Logging in at bid.repocast.com, Logging in, Clicking Account in the upper right corner & then going to TITLE TRANSFERS on the left side.
If you prefer to handle at the time of payment & pickup, we ask that you have the above paperwork printed out & with you at that time.
If you have someone else picking up for you, we would need to have an Appointment of Agent form filled out & signed.
Once you have completed paperwork with us, that paperwork is sent to MI Secretary of State for transfer. We receive an RD108 Receipt of Transfer that confirms the unit has been put into your name & we email those upon receiving them back from Secretary of State.
Transfers can take up to 21 days. Titles are mailed directly from Secretary of State & may take 2-3 weeks from the validation date on the receipt to come in the mail to the address requested.
Vehicle/Trailer – Out of State Resident (In-Transit Title Transfers – from MI to another state):
If titling personally, we would need the ID(s) of who the titled unit would be titled too.
If titling to a company, we would need the full name, address & Federal ID.
We would need Proof of Insurance (except for trailers)
We complete all paperwork with you at pickup or online through your account under Title Transfers.
A 30 day temporary plate is issued
**Please Note: if the consignor (seller) listed as seller on the title is a licensed car dealer in the State of Michigan, the temporary tag will be issued by that dealer upon our request from the buyer. Our company will email you the temporary tag when received from the issuing dealer. If you have someone else picking up for you, we would need to have an Appointment of Agent form filled out & signed.
Once you have completed paperwork with us, that paperwork is sent to MI Secretary of State for transfer. We receive back an RD108 Receipt of Transfer, showing sales tax paid to Michigan, the title and a 60 Day Temporary Plate & Registration.
We will USPS/UPS this paperwork to you & it would be your responsibility to bring it to your SOS/DMV to complete transfer into your name ASAP.
**Depending on your state, different sales tax rate may apply**
OH, IL & IN are all reciprocal with Michigan, so the 6% Sales Tax you pay to Repocast (who in turns pays to State of Michigan), is recognized by your home state SOS/DMV & you would be responsible for the difference between our rate & yours – usually an extra 1-3% depending on your location.
There are a few states that do not have sales tax or are not reciprocal with Michigan & our title department would be able to update accordingly.
Boat/UTV/Powersports – Out of State Resident (bought in MI, but going to be titled out of State):
These types of purchases may be exempt from the Title Broker Processing Fee & Sales tax.
A valid ID would have to be produced and the title would be assigned & handed over to the bidder. The new buyer would be responsible to bring to their home state SOS/DMV with a Repocast Paid Invoice & title to complete transfer into their name.
If you are out of state & are planning to bid on a unit that this may apply to, please feel free to contact our Title Departments to ensure the item is eligible for this process.
Vehicle /Truck Dealer:
If you are a vehicle dealer, we would need a copy of your VALID dealer’s license & sales tax license for verification & to be put on file through your account.
MI Dealers – We may need your Dealer License#, we are able to verify through the SOS Lookup & update accordingly. We request your sales tax license as well.
Out of State – we will request a current license & sales tax license.
Dealers do not pay sales tax & the title broker processing & title fee’s are waived. A $25 Dealer Title Fee is added to the invoice for re-assignment of the title.
If you are a dealer, have created an account and plan to bid for the first time – please email us your current license & sales tax license to info@repocast.com and we can add on file & set your account to “Dealer” for invoicing.
Out of Country Purchases:
Export transactions can be very detailed depending on the situation.
Please contact our title department before purchasing to discuss options:
If you are using your own export company & can they are able to provide us with a Bill of Lading with Export port information, we would be able to waive sales tax & would re-assign the title to the buyer name & release to exporter with the unit for the border crossing.
If you do not have an exporter & plan to pick up yourself, we would be able to complete paperwork to set up the border crossing. Payment would need to be made & title transfer completed & may take additional time to complete. We use Simplified Trade Solutions to complete the AES Filing – https://simplifiedtradesolutions.com/ – There would be an additional fee of $40.
